Southwest Airlines Celebrates 15 Years of Service in Tucson, Boise, and Salt Lake City

Southwest Airlines is celebrating 15 years of LUV in three cities today. On Oct. 4, 1994, the airline began service to Tucson International Airport, Salt Lake City International Airport, and Boise Airport. In celebration of this special occasion, Southwest Airlines’ Employees and Customers will enjoy food and FUN at each of these airports.

BOISE (BOI) statistics:

- Southwest began service to Boise with seven daily nonstop departures to three cities: Salt Lake City, Seattle/Tacoma, and Portland.
- Boise was the 41st city added in the Southwest system.
- Southwest Airlines now operates 16 daily nonstop departures to seven cities out of BOI.

SALT LAKE CITY (SLC) statistics:

- Southwest began service to Salt Lake City with 41 daily nonstop departures to 13 cities: Boise, Las Vegas, Los Angeles (LAX), Oakland, Orange County, Phoenix, Portland, Reno/Tahoe, Sacramento, St. Louis, San Diego, Seattle/Tacoma, and Spokane.
- Salt Lake City was the 42nd city added in the Southwest system.
- Southwest Airlines now operates 43 daily nonstop departures to 14 cities out of SLC.

TUCSON (TUS) statistics:

- Southwest began service to Tucson with eight daily nonstop departures to three cities: Las Vegas, Los Angeles (LAX), and San Diego.
- Tucson was the 43rd city added in the Southwest system.
- Southwest Airlines now operates 18 daily nonstop departures to six cities out of TUS.

Southwest Airlines Reports Trafic, Passenger and Profit Airline Company Business

Southwest Airlines Co. announced today that the Company flew 5.3 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in November 2008, an 8.3 percent decrease from the 5.7 billion RPMs flown in November 2007. Available seat miles (ASMs) were essentially flat at 8.3 billion for November 2007 and November 2008. The load factor for the month was 63.2 percent, compared to 69.3 percent for the same period last year.

For the eleven months ended November 30, 2008, Southwest flew 67.7 billion RPMs, compared to the 66.6 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 2007, an increase of 1.7 percent. Available seat miles increased 4.1 percent to 95.0 billion from the 2007 level of 91.2 billion. The year-to-date load factor was 71.3 percent, compared to 73.0 percent for the same period last year.

United Airlines Launches Summer Fares For Hong Kong, America

United Airlines is providing promotional summer fares for flights between Vietnam and the US, as well as to Hong Kong.

The discounted fares for Los Angeles and San Francisco start at US$770, with travel until June 14.

The American carrier is selling a round trip between Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong starting at US$138, with travel from April 1 till June 10 this year.

The summer promotion is applied for max stay of four days, and the booking class is L.

United’s regular fares for a round trip between HCM City and Hong Kong are also available, starting at US$188.

The airline operates daily direct flights between Vietnam and the US via Hong Kong. The service was launched in December 2004, making United the first American carrier to fly to Vietnam since 1975.

In related news, Northwest Airlines, a wholly subsidiary of American carrier Delta Air Lines, will discontinue flights to HCM City via Tokyo, effective from March 27, 2010.

Delta became the second US airline to fly to HCM City in June 2009, five years after United. Once Delta stops its service, United will be again the only American carrier flying to Vietnam.

Till the end of 2009, United had transported more than 700,000 passengers in the route. The carrier said it had recorded average yearly growth of 20% in passenger traffic to Vietnam over the past five years.

Hawaiian Airlines buys another jet

Hawaiian Airlines has bought another wide-body Airbus A330-200 jet.

The new jet will join the two other A330s announced two weeks ago.

The company, a subsidiary of Hawaiian Holdings (Nasdaq: HA), said the jet, along with one of the other two jets, will join the airline’s fleet in the second quarter of 2010. The third jet will join the fleet in 2011.

“These commitments to increasing the size of our fleet and to bringing the new aircraft to Hawaii two years earlier than planned deepen Hawaiian’s already substantial investment in our home state and its economy,” said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president and CEO, in a statement. “This is great news for the future of our company, our employees and Hawaii’s visitor industry.”

The wide-body A330-200 jet seats 298 passengers in a two-class configuration, increasing the carrier’s seating capacity.

In February, the company announced its $4.4 billion deal for 12 new jets from Airbus with purchase rights for 12 more. Those jets are scheduled to be delivered in 2012.

Shares of Hawaiian Holdings stock closed down 4.3 percent to $6.37.

Kingfisher Airlines Adds 14 New Flights Services on 7 Routes

Kingfisher Airlines frequent flyer programme—will earn double the number of miles if they fly on these new flights before January 15, 2011.

Kingfisher Airlines, India’s only Five Star airline rated by Skytrax, has announced the launch of 14 new flights on 7 routes, with effect from December 15, 2010.

The new flights that have been introduced are:

New Delhi – Hyderabad: 2 additional flights launched taking the total number of daily flights on this route to 3 flights in each direction.

New Delhi – Chennai: 1 additional flight launched which means that there are now two daily flights on this route in either direction.

New Delhi – Bhubaneshwar: 2 new flights have been introduced on this route.

Mumbai – Lucknow: 2 new flights have been introduced on this route.

Manoj Chacko, Executive Vice President-Commercial, Kingfisher Airlines Limited said, “The launch of these new flights will offer excellent connectivity and more flight options between metropolitan cities and other important cities in India. These flights have been introduced with convenient timings and have been planned in such a manner that they offer a same-day return for travellers.
